Explanation of the Different Classes Held at the Centre
Introductory
This class is strongly recommended if you are new to Iyengar Yoga. It is designed to introduce you to the philosophy and physical discipline of Yoga, through an 8 week rotating curriculum with a different sequence each consecutive class. We will take you through some Asana (postures) and breathing from the Introductory syllabus of the Iyengar Yoga method. You will learn how to use props i.e. blocks, blankets, straps etc. in the correct way. The class will give you a safe and solid foundation for you to continue your learning and will prepare you for any of the level 1 classes on the timetable.
Level 1
This is a good place to start if you have already had some experience of Iyengar Yoga. It is also the next stage after having completed at least 8 weeks of Introductory. You will be guided and encouraged to deepen your knowledge of the yoga postures already learnt in Introductory. You will be introduced to new Asana in a safe and friendly environment.
Level 1+2
This is for students who are coming to classes on a regular basis. The inversions will now be introduced and included in this class. All the Asana from the Introductory syllabus will be presented.
Level 2
This class is for practitioners with a couple of year's experience of Iyengar Yoga. There will be even more depth given to the basic Asana and some more challenging postures may be taught. We will introduce you to Asana from the Junior Intermediate syllabus. Regular attendance is recommended.
Level 2+3
This class is for practitioners with long experience of yoga and for Teachers in Training. In this class we further our depth of understanding and introduce Asana from the Senior Intermediate syllabus. Please ask your teacher if this class is appropriate for you before attending.
